In case you’re counting down the months: football season is just about four months away. We know, it probably feels like forever for you diehard football fans.
Well, lucky for you this season is lining up with the introduction of Fort Lauderdale’s newest sports bar:Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill–named after former Miami Dolphin’s linebacker Kim Bokamper.
The newest outpost of the chain, which already has locations in Miramar, Plantation, and Naples, will be situated directly on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway just north of Oakland Park Blvd.
While this is great news for Miami Dolphin’s lovers, it’s also a great deal for the city of Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant will be swapping some of the land in it’s purchase deal with the current site of the city’s Fire Station 54.
Sounds kind of odd, huh?
Currently, Station 54 needs to make considerable modifications to meet flood-plain requirements. The land owned by Bokamper’s, just across the street and just north of the station’s existing site, does not have the same grading issues. The city forecasts the deal would save at least $500,000 in construction costs.
If the deal is approved, Bokamper’s will be using the site of the fire-station for a valet parking lot.
Although commissioners have already voiced support for the deal, it is expected to be presented before them sometime in May.
The restaurant is slated to open in September.
